News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | UNP suspends five Provincial Councillors The United National Party yesterday suspended the membership of five of its provincial councillors in the Southern Provincial Council for going on a trip to India without taking prior approval from the politburo. Accordingly the politburo decided to suspend the membership of the provincial councillors Lal Chandra, Baby Weerasinghe, Siri Wijayawickrama, Kapila Wellappuli and Piyadasa Abeywickrama immediately. Earlier in April, an anquiry was initiated into a similar trip allegedly made by five UNP councillors in the Southern Provincial Council to India, party sources added. |
