by Ranga Jayasuriya LTTE political chief Thamilselvam yesterday returned to Kilinochchi wrapping up a week-long visit to the East and was expected to brief Velupillai Prabhakaran on the outcome of the visit, an LTTE spokesman said. "The visit was fruitful. Thamilselvam will brief Prabhakaran on his meetings with the local LTTE leaders" LTTE spokesman Daya Master said. "He met area commanders, Government officials, civilians and journalists to discuss a wide range of issues relating to the peace process," Daya Master said. LTTE political chief's visit came after the Government submitted its new set of Interim Administrative proposals to the Tigers who kept on saying that an interim administrative mechanism for the North-East is a prerequisite for the resumption of the currently stalled peace talks. Thamilselvam's visit was deemed as a mission by the LTTE leadership to consult the movement's volatile Eastern leadership on the peace process. The East was the hotbed for routine ceasefire violations by the Tigers. Speaking at an LTTE rally in the Meenaham grounds, 40Km west of Batticaloa in the Tiger held area, Thamilselvam said the LTTE will come out with counter proposals for the Government's proposals for a provisional administrative council for the North-East. |
