Standard of education in schools cannot be raised by physical resources alone - Minister

Gampaha group corr.

The standard of education in schools cannot be raised by supplying physical resources alone. To get better results in education and to improve the standard of the school the teacher should be dedicated, said Suranimala Rajapaksa, Minister of School Education.

He was speaking at the opening of the two storied building at Dompe Maha Vidyalaya and the distribution of 10 computers to schools in Dompe.

Minister Rajapaksa speaking further said the teacher should understand the minds of the students. He can make or break a student's future. Hence he should work with dedication. The teaching profession is a responsible and honourable vocation. It is the duty of the teacher to preserve this honour.

He said in some popular schools there are excess teachers. Steps have already been taken to transfer them to schools where there are vacancies.

This year 800 schools in the island will be supplied with computers at a cost of Rs. 800 million. Next year 1200 schools will be supplied with computers at a cost of Rs. 1500 million.

It is the duty of students, teachers and parents to make the maximum use of these resources for the future.
