Renown SC comes out with a strong outfit Renown Sports Club was formed in the year 1980. The founder of this sports club was L. Vincent Pieris, from No. 341, Sea Street. In 1981, the sons of Vincent Pieris namely Subhash Pieris, Canyute Pieris, Robert Pieris, Krispin Pieris, and their cousins and friends got together and practised at Hettiyawatte, Harbour Grounds and formed and put the foundation for Renown Sports Club. In the year 1981, the Renown Team won the championship for the first time by participating in the Silver Cup Football Tournament held by the Colombo Football League. Also in 1982 the Championship was won by the Renown Team. In this period Edward Jayawardena was coaching the team. In 1983, the team participated in the 'A' division tournament and won the Sugathadasa Memorial Cup Football Championship. Mohan Savarimuthu was the captain of the team during this period. Later the team participated in the Tournaments in the 'A' Division in local tourneys. In 1984, 85, 86 the team was the Runners up in the FA Cup conducted by the Sri Lanka Football Federation. Then in 1987, the Renown SC won the FA Cup under the Captaincy of Bazil Wambak. In the same year (1987) the team participated in the Tournament for the President Cup in Maldives and won the Championship and brought glory and prestige to Sri Lanka. Mohan Weerasinghe captained the team on this tour. In 1988 the team won the Bristol FA Cup and the prize money amount to Rs. 15,000 was donated to Janasaviya by the team. In the year 1989 the Renown SC won many tournaments FA Cup, Yazin Cup, Gold Cup, Sugathadasa Memorial Cup, Mayor's Cup, M. H. Mohammed Championship Cup, Bristol League Cup, and Abdul Rahumen Cup. In the year 1989, 90, 91 the team participated in special tournaments and defeated the Maldivian Velancia team and North Bengal Team in Maldives. Later the team obtained the 6th place in the Premier League Football Tournament. Many players from Renown team were selected to represent Sri Lanka National team and Sri Lanka's National Youth team. Riyanzi Walles, A. Devendran, Anton Silva, Ajith Kaldera, A. Loganadan, P. Santhakumar, Bazil Wambak, G. J. Premalal, M. Rafee, Dudly Stanewall in Chaminda Stanewall, and Krishantha Abeysekera were the national players from Renown SC. Players the National Youth team from Renown were K. J. P. Kumara, Tharanga Jayasingha, H. D. Hettiarachchi, M. Saneera Perera, Vijayasurendran, N. Abeysekera, and M. W. Krishan Pushpakumara. The Coaches for Renown team were Edward Jayawardena, Albert Fernando, Edward Wickremasooriya, Shantha Kumar and Purushatham did a Yeoman service. Upul Premalal former Sri Lanka forward in the national team in the year 1981 to 1994 is the present Coach. Sharp FA Cup 2002/03 Championship was won by Renown SC. In the Final which was held recently at Sugathadasa Stadium Renown SC defeated Air Force 1-0. With this FA Cup win Renown SC has won the FA Cup on five occasions. The Matches were organized by the Sri Lanka Football Federation and 129 Teams participated in this tournament and 128 matches were played. Present Team: M. K. Janaka Priyantha, G.
