Thai PM revives Sri Lanka visit

COLOMBO, July 30 (AFP)Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is due to visit Sri Lanka next month, renewing plans put on hold three months ago because of bad weather, the foreign ministry said Wednesday.

The Thai premier was originally due here in May, but that visit was abruptly put off due to heavy rains that eventually caused unprecedented flooding in southern Sri Lanka, officials said. Thaksin, who is now due to arrive here on August 14 on a two-day visit, is due to hold talks with President Chandrika Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, officials said.

Thailand hosted several rounds of peace talks between the Colombo government and Tamil Tigers rebels earlier this year and late last year.
