Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Tetsuro Yano will be in Sri Lanka on a two day visit from August 3rd to 4th accompanied by other officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Yano is a member of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and a member of the House of Councillors, states a Japanese Embassy press release. During his short visit to Sri Lanka Yano will meet with leaders of the Sri Lankan Government and exchange views on the peace process in Sri Lanka. He is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tyronne Fernando, Minister of Economic Reforms, Science & Technology, Milinda Moragoda, Minister Assisting Foreign Affairs, Lal Gamage and Minister of Lands, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne. Mr. Yano will witness the signing ceremony of a contract for a Grant Assistance Project with the Government of Sri Lanka for the "Matara Water Supply Scheme" and hand over a document for "Maternal and Child Health Project" to UNICEF. He is also scheduled to travel to Jaffna where he will visit an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Inuvil. During his visit to Jaffna Yano is also expected to announce a statement regarding the peace process in Sri Lanka. He will also inspect the activity of the Association of Medical Doctors in Asia (AMDA). Yano will also witness the historic "Peace Games 2003" at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo where he will officially hand over the list of sports and audio visual equipment to the Football Federation of Sri Lanka which is a donation to be granted by Japan under the Grassroots Cultural Grant Assistance Programme and present the awards to the Best Athletes of the "Peace Games 2003" at the conclusion of the sports event. |
