by Rashomi Silva Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's forthcoming visit to China is expected to boost Chinese investment opportunities in Sri Lanka with the business community endorsing the event as another step in the process towards Regaining Sri Lanka. "The continuing climate of peace has opened up opportunities to promote Sri Lanka and we are confident that the PM's visit will provide an impetus to help re-build the war ravaged economy of the country, these business leaders point out. The key event of the tour will be a Sri Lanka-China business and investment forum organised by the China Council for Promotion of International Co-operation and Trade with China. The prime Minister will also call on his counterpart Zhu Rongji and the President and several ministers during the stay, the Prime Minister's office announced. Meanwhile a spokesperson for the Sri Lanka Tourist Board said that the Tourist Board will make a presentation during the investors' forum to highlight tourism related investment opportunities. "We are very keen to promote the country given the Chinese government's recent decision to accord Sri Lanka the privilege of 'destination status',a mandatory endorsement by the Chinese Government which is a pre-requisite for promotional activities in China," he said. "The Prime Minister's visit is bound to create an interest in the country and given Sri Lanka's potential as an ideal travel destination we will go all out to tap the potential of the Chinese outbound travel market, the spokesman said. |
