Considering a request for allocation of land made by members of families affected by the Udathalawinna mass murder that took place during the last general elections, the Cabinet has decided, on a proposal by the Minister of Housing & Plantation Infrastructure, Arumugan Thondaman to allocate ten blocks of land from the Pallekelewatte, Kandy owned by the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA), states a press release by the NHDA. The initial request for lands was received by Faizer Mustapha, Vice Chairman of NHDA when the affected families met him and explained to him the pathetic situation they were placed in due to the loss of breadwinners in the respective families. Mr. Mustapha then brought this to the notice of Minister of Housing & Plantation Infrastructure, a proposal was submitted by Arumugan Thondaman to the Cabinet to allocate ten blocks of land from the land Pallekelewatte Kandy owned by NHDA to the families concerned. Having obtained the Cabinet approval for this proposal, Minister Thondaman has directed the NHDA to allocate the lands and the NHDA is making arrangements to hand over the possession of the blocks within the next few days. |
