First copy of Police Puvath handed over to IGP

by Sarath Malalasekera

The first copy of the Police News Bulletin "Police Puvath" was handed over to IGP T.E. Anandarajah by Police Headquarters DIG Jayantha Wickremaratne at a ceremony held at the Police Headquarters office recently.

'I hope that this bulletin, which is the first of its kind in the 137 years history of the Police, will forge ahead day by day providing representations to every one who seek them,' IGP Anandarajah said at the ceremony.

The IGP paid a glowing tribute to DIG Jayantha Wickremeratne for publishing this news bulletin for the police personnel.

The IGP in a message to the bulletine said that a systematic programme of appreciation and assessment of the tremendous services rendered by the rank and file of the police, in the course of their daily routine, covering so many official as well as unofficial police areas has been observed as a timely need.

Reports of their invaluable services some times appear in newspapers, but it has been observed that such publicity is inadequate to make the public and the other police officers substantially aware of their invaluable achievements. In view of this inadequecy, the Police Department decided to launch a bulletin called "Police Puvath", a police bulletin to appreciate the praiseworthy contribution made by police officers of various ranks, towards social activities, IGP Anandarajah said.

It especially enables the parties concerned to know and understand the various services available for public welfare through the participation and dedication of police officers. 'I hope that this step will bring optimum benefit to police officers of all ranks attached to various divisions of the Police Department as well as to the civilian officers who join hands with us to perform their day to day duties, the IGP added.

"I take this opportunity to convey my sincere thanks to DIG Jayantha Wickremaratne in charge of the Police Headquarters, who took prompt action to successfully realize my dream of launching this maiden issue.I also sincerely thank the Editorial Staff and every officer who helped in various ways and conducted affairs efficiently to make this venture a success.," the IGP said

I also express my deep appreciation of this endeavour which I see as a step taken to make the public and the police aware of the functions of the police department to a great extent, the IGP said.

The Police Personnel and others who contributed to the first Police bulletin are Retired Senior DIG Gamini Gunawardene, DIGs Jayantha Wickramaratne, Sirisena Herath, Pathmasiri Liyanage, Senior SPs L.
