by Sarath Malalasekera

A special Police team of the Panadura Police Division in a surprise raid during the week-end arrested 35 persons and recovered Rs. 90,000 worth of jewellery which had been robbed from a house in the Panadura Division.

Panadura Division Senior SP Kithsiri Dayananda who is directing investigations revealed that most of the persons who were arrested by the Special Police team are wanted in connection with several offenses including possession of illegal distilleries. Investigations also revealed that some of the persons who were arrested were evading arrest.

Senior SP Dayananda had deployed another police team to ascertain whether the persons now in custody are involved in any other major crimes in the country.

Some of the persons arrested were produced before the Panadura Magistrate and remanded pending the completion of investigations.
