by Sarath Malalasekera The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigating the massive human smuggling racket detected in the Tangalle Police area yesterday deployed a special Police team to arrest the four local agents including a woman involved in the racket. The CID officials recently arrested 254 persons including 250 Pakistani nationals on vessel 'MV Invicible' while they were illegally attempting to leave Sri Lanka for employment abroad. All the suspects including four crew members had been produced before the Tangalle Magistrate and remanded until the completion of the ongoing investigations. Three crew members are detained at the vessel now in Galle harbour. The CID also arrested seven crew members including the captain of the vessel "MV Invicible'. Investigations revealed that the vessel now detained by the CID had come to Sri Lanka on February 26, 2003 with the name of 'MV Jenlil' later the name of the vessel had been changed to MV Invicible and arrived in Sri Lanka on July 1, 2003. CID DIG Lionel Gunatilleke is directing invetigations with CID Director Senior SP Sisira Mendis, Senior SP D. S. Y. Samaratunga and special team of the CID. |
