PERC to make arrangements for bus company divestiture

by Rajmi Manatunga

The Transport Ministry has directed the Public Enterprise Reform Commission (PERC) to make arrangements for the much postponed divestiture of the seven remaining CTB cluster bus companies.

A spokesman for the Transport Ministry told the Daily News that the Vavunuya, Northern, New Eastern, Ruhuna, Nuwara Eliya, Uva and Wyamba bus companies which did not receive eligible bids at the October 31 listing will be thus listed to private investors.

"The ministry and the Public Enterprise Reform Commission (PERC) decided to re-advertise the companies since the bidders who had expressed interest in them at last time's listing were unable to show the required turnover and the period for submitting bid bonds for the divestiture ended Saturday evening," he said.

However, the October divestiture of six companies have currently being halted owing to action filed by the CTB employees claiming that the listing violated their rights by not allocating them their due shares.
