by Indeewara Thilakarathne Mohamed Saley Mohamed Nazar's body was identified by his brother, said Dr. Asoka Bandara Senevirathne continuing to testify before the Trial-at-Bar hearing the Udathalawinna mass murder case yesterday. The Trial-at-Bar comprises High Court Judges, Eric Basnayaka (president), Deepali Wijesundara and Sunil Rajapaksa. Examined by the Additional Solicitor General Palitha Fernando, Dr. Asoka Bandara said that he had observed 14 external wounds on the body of the victim. The wound on left shoulders was caused by a scratch by a bullet and that the 5, 6 and 7 wounds were almost similar in form. Dr. Asoka Bandara said that he had handed over two bullets that had been recovered from the body of the victim to the Teldeniya Magistrate. He had also observed 1,500 ml of blood being accumulated in the stomach of the victim. The wound was severe enough to cause death under natural conditions. 12,13,14 wounds in the left foot of the victim were interconnected and was caused by a bullet. The bones connecting 1,2,3 and 4 fingers in the foot have also been damaged in the attack. He said that 1,2,3,4,8 and 9 wounds were similar to bullet wounds. Dr. Asoka Bandara said that the stomach of the victim was empty and that the cause of the death was due to haemorrhage and the wounds in the stomach. (At this stage, a sealed parcel was opened) The parcel contained a two distorted bullets, pieces of metal and a piece of a bullet jacket. Dr. Asoka Bandara said that the two bullets were recovered from the left chest and stomach while the pieces of metal and a piece of bullet jacket recovered from the garment of the victim. Further hearings resumed on July 9. |
