Sports in Brief Second half rally helps CH & FC CH and FC staged a superb second half rally to beat Sri Lanka Army SC by 29 points to 28 in their Caltex inter club A division league rugby tournament match played at Galle Face yesterday. The winners collected their points from one penalty goal, one goal and three tries while Army SC responded with one goal, three tries and two penalties. Army SC took a commanding 28-5 lead at half time while scoring a goal, three tries and two penalties. Army SC were in full control of the situation in the first half with Kapila Knowlton, Naufer Rahim, Herathge and Parakum Fernando scoring a try each. In addition Wijesiri was in good form firing across three penalties and adding the extra points to one try. But the game took a dramatic change in the second half with CH and FC firing all cylinders to turn the match in their favour. Jim Bolokoro was their most outstanding player scoring a hattrick of tries and Pradeep Sivakantha planted one try. Havies in comfortable win Havelocks SC scored a comfortable 46 points to 14 win over Police SC in their Caltex inter club 'A' division league rugby tournament match played at Havelock Park yesterday. The winners collected their points from four goals, three tries and one penalty having led 20-14 at half time. Police SC managed to score only two goals. Superb win for Lumbini Lumbini MV came from behind with a superb performance to beat Carey College by 22 points to 10 in their Milo Schools 'C' division league rugby tournament match played at Longden Place yesterday. Lumbini MV collected their points from two goals, one try and one penalty after Carey had taken a 12-10 lead at half time. Carey's points came from one goal and a try. Lumbini MV dominated the second half and scored twice having survived some anxious moments during the early stages. Lumbini MV with this win moved into the top of the 'C' division points table with a total of four victories to their credit. Carey College dropped into the third place following their first defeat of the tournament with Prince of Wales College Moratuwa taking the second place in the points table. |
