They defeated Java Lane SC 3 goals to nil and later beat Renown SC, the FA Cup champions who were crowned last week 2 goals to 1. Meanwhile last year's runners-up police who figured in only one match last week lost to Blue Star SC from Kalutara. Air Force which reached the final of the FA Cup with a very young outfit managed to overcome Matara SC 3 goals to nil. Saunders SC the most respected team from Colombo in the past two decades which failed to live up to its expectations during the last premier league where they occupied the seventh slot in the table, fare a bit better to end the first game in a draw with Hyline SC from Kandy. Blue Star SC who defeated the strong Police SC in their season's opening game came off with another fine victory when they trounced Navy SC 1 goal to nil. The other top contender for the title this year Ratnam also figured well in the task week's game drawing both their games against Army SC (1-1) and Java Lane also 1-1. With the first week completed in the championship the defending champs Negombo Youth Sports Club and Blue Start SC with two victories have reached the top.
