NLF on killings New left Front leader Dr. Wickremabahu Karunaratne in a news release states, assassination of various people, claimed to be done by the LTTE, raised an important question among the left in this country. The LTTE, now playing the role of sole representative of the Tamil people is expected to stop violent activities both open and hidden. Of course, the LTTE claims that it is not involved in the killings of informers and rival politicians. Their argument is that all these killings have taken place in government controlled areas. As such it is the responsibility of the government the tracking of murderers and providing security to the civilians. However, the killing of rival Tamil political leaders have happened in such a manner that a wave of protest has come from left wing political circles. The killing of rival of political leaders, even if they have a track record of being open collaborators of chauvinist oppression of the Sri Lanka regime, cannot be justified by any rational argument. If they are outright betrayers of Tamil Liberation then they will be marginalised by the people. Hence they should be allowed to come before the people. Nowhere in history, individual terrorism which doesn't, trust the participation of people has brought liberty to the masses. "Pongu Thamil" movement, Trade Union campaigns and such other mass actions put together could develop a real mass movement which can defeat the oppression of Tamil people. Whether LTTE could take this turn yet to be seen. |
