Anandasangaree emerges unscathed

by Ranga Jayasuriya

Despite LTTE demands for his ouster and media speculations of a no-confidence vote, Tamil United Liberation Front president V. Anandasangaree emerged unscathed at the TULF Central Committee meeting held yesterday. Anandasangaree said nothing about his leadership was discussed at the meeting. "I don't know whether anybody had it (calling a change in the leadership) in mind, but nothing about it was discussed".

"It was an ordinary Central Committee meeting. The only difference is that we had it after a lapse of three or four months ," he said. When the TULF parliamentarians met LTTE political chief Thamilselvam last month, the LTTE demanded the ouster of Anandasangaree. The 70 year- old - Jaffna district Parliamentarian, who was absent at all the meetings with the LTTE, said he will resign only if the party's 48 member Central Committee demands his resignation. Yesterday's meeting was attended by 35 members including all TULF MPs.Anandasangaree said the current political situation, interim administration, the implications of the proposed alliance between the PA and the JVP were among the issues discussed at yesterday's meeting.
