Man with a pistol nabbed Trincomalee correspondent

A police patrol headed by Sub-Inspector P. I. Ranasinghe has taken a man into custody in the Dhanyagama area, China Bay around 11 p.m. on Monday and has found a Browning 9mm model pistol with five live cartridges hidden in his waist. Death toll in van tragedy rises

The death toll in Friday's school van tragedy in Peliyagoda has increased to three when Nirosha Pinto (11) a grade six student of St. Joseph's Convent Grandpass succumbed to her injuries at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Colombo National Hospital on Saturday.

The victim was travelling from her residence at Kurutalawa, Ragama in the illfated van which was transporting twenty school children..

Dr. Ajith Jayasena who held the post mortem ruled that Heshani had died due to head injuries.
