UK-Sri Lanka Business Council to be launched this month by Colvin L. De Silva in London The formal launch of the UK-Sri Lanka Business Council will be held this month with the participation of the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Ravi Karunanayake at the High Commission in West London. The Business Council's primary objective is to expand and develop business between the British Trade and their counter parts in Sri Lanka. United Kingdom has emerged as the second largest trading partner of Sri Lanka and the leading investor among the members of the European Union. High Commissioner Faiz Mustapha who heads this Council as the ex-offico Chairman is of the view that there is a great potential for further expansion of trade, investment, tourism and other economic activities between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom. Invitations has gone out all Sri Lankan business organisations in the UK and British trading partners to become members of this Council which is now a legal entity with a constitution. Membership of the Council is open to all individuals and corporate bodies having an interest in promoting business relations between the two countries. The key-note address will be made by George F. Metcalfe, Director Training of the British Business Referral Exchange. Speaking to the Daily News the First Secretary (Commercial) D. W. Jinadasa who is also the Secretary to the Working Committee of the Council said that the country would stand to benefit immensely with the functioning of this Business Council. "It will not only act as a catalyst for growth of business but pave the way for well focused networking opportunities and referrals for business among members as well as wider business community. There will be regular seminars, work-shops and study tours for members", he added. |
