by Uditha Kumarasinghe The work performance appraisal programme introduced by the Agriculture, Livestock and Samurdhi Ministry to evaluate the working performance of over 20,000 Ministry employees engaged in the agriculture sector has effectively facilitated to increase the ministerial activities. On the directions of Minister S.B. Dissanayake this is the first time that steps were taken by a Government Ministry to evaluate the working performance of its own employees providing them necessary guidelines and incentives, Ministry Secretary Danasena Hettiarachchi told the Daily News yesterday. "This would be an example to other Ministries which are looking for various strategies to improve the competency of their employees," he said. "Through this endeavour, the Ministry has been able to give a good answer to the complaints made that the efficiency and the productivity of the Government employees cannot be improved," he said. According to this appraisal system, the Ministry has given targets to each ministry employee and their service will be evaluated by granting them salary increments, foreign tours and other necessary facilities, he said. He said the officers who have shown highest performance in their work have been selected to these scholars from Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Moneragala, Galle and Matara districts. The Ministry will shortly send the fifth batch of the officers selected from the Kurunegala district. Specially the agriculture instructors selected to these scholars are affiliated to Provincial Councils. "However the intention of Minister Dissanayake is to treat those who are engaged in the agriculture sector equally without considering whether they belong to the Central Government or the Provincial Councils," he said. |
