President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga met on Tuesday with a U.S. Congressional delegation comprising Congressmen Jerry Weller (Republican - Illinois) and Scott Garrett (Republican - Jersey). The congressmen are members of the Sri Lankan Caucus of the US Congress. Acting US Ambassador Donald Camp was also present. Senior Advisor to the President Lakshman Kadirgamar, Sri Lanka's Ambassador to the US, Devinda Subasinghe, the President's Spokesman Harim Peiris, Nawazz Rajabdeen and Kosala Abeywickrema of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce were associated with the President at the discussions", the President's House said yesterday. The Congressional delegation on an official visit to Sri Lanka were primarily seeking to expand the trade and investment ties between the Untied States and Sri Lanka. Bilateral issues and other issues of mutual concern were discussed during the meeting that lasted about 45 minutes, the release from the Presidential Secretariat stated. |
