by Kushani Ratnayake The Ministry of Tourism launched its first tabloid "Sarisara" on Tuesday. The tabliod which is in Sinhala is designed to cater to the local tourists. Tourism Minister Gamini Lokuge launched the tabloid. The Chairman of Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, Nalin Ladduwahetty was the chief guest. The magazine will be published once in every two months. According to the Minister, the magazine will specially help the local travellers since it is in Sinhala. "We thought of doing it in Sinhala to educate our people in every part of the country about tourism and travel. Today there are many magazines on tourism and travel in English and most of our local travellers specially in the villages, do not have a clear idea about this trade". "Apart from this we wanted to educate the youth of our country about the hotel system", he said. Lokuge said that the Ministry has sighed a contract with China to attrcat more tourists and expressed his optimisim that this will pave the way to attract tourists from other East Asian countries. "We want to double our profits and build up the trade and want to give a good image of our country to the whole world" he said. |
