Missing Kfir bomb found by Ranil Wijayapala The Vavuniya Police was puzzled on Wednesday after Police teams found that a bomb weighing nearly 15 kilograms found by some villagers in Tharanikulam in Vavuniya and reported to them was missing when they arrived at the scene to defuse it. Earlier an Investigations Officer attached to the International Bomb Disposal Unit based in Vavuniya reached Vavuniya, Headquarters Police, on Wednesday requesting the Police to assist them to dispose of the bomb after evacuating the villagers. Two villagers from Tharanikulam had found the bomb (later identified as a Kfir bomb) weighing nearly 15 Kgs, had informed International Bomb Disposal Unit. The Investigation Officer has gone to Vavuniya Police requesting assistance to have sand bags and the evacuation of villagers from the area to facilitate the disposal of the bomb. The bomb was missing from its location when the police team arrived on the scene. However, the Police teams were able to trace the bomb hidden in a place far away from the original place where it was found. A Tamil youth has been arrested on suspicion of hiding the bomb and produced before courts yesterday by the Vavuniya Police. |
