President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga celebrates her 58th birthday tomorrow, June 29. A series of religious ceremonies have been organized jointly by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Professionals' Organization, Lakmatha Foundation and the Political Victims 2001 Organization to mark her birthday. Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana is at the helm of these ceremonies, a media release by the Presidential Secretariat stated. An alms giving to the Mahasanga will take place at 7.00 a.m. tomorrow following a special Buddhapooja at Jayasekararamaya, Kuppiyawatte, Maradana. Nayakakanda St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hendala, Wattala will conduct a Holy Mass at 8.30 a.m. to invoke blessings on her.The Mass Prayer of the Muslim congregation will take place at Dawatagaha Mosque, Town Hall, Colombo at 1.30 p.m. while the Hindu Offerings will be conducted at Iswarar Kovil, Captain's Garden, Maradana at 4.30 p.m. The SLFP Jaffna District branch has organized a special Holy Mass at Christ King Church, Rajagiriya at 10.00 a.m. followed by a distribution of food and drinks to the poor to commemorate the President's birthday. |
