by Sarath Malalasekera An army deserter, alleged to be involved in the killing of PA Southern Provincial Council Minister M.K. Ranjith alias Chandi Malli was arrested yesterday. He was the fifth suspect to be arrested. R.W. Jayaratne alias Weerakoon of Suriyawewa who had been in custody in connection with the killing of M.K. Ranjith was further remanded till July 7 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarath C. Karunaratne. The other three suspects who are alleged to have been involved in the killing of M. K. Ranjith will be produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate on July 7 for an identification parade, Southern Range DIG D. W. Prathapasinghe said. Four special police teams were deployed earlier by the Colombo DIG on the direction of IGP T. E. Anandarajah to trace the murderers of Southern Provincial Minister M. K. Ranjith. The Provincial Minister was shot dead by unidentified gunmen close to the High Security Zone, York Street, Colombo on May 25 morning. He was killed while returning after appearing before the CID on a court order. SP Gamini Dissanayake, Director CCD SP Sarath Lugoda and ASP Hettiarachchi are assisting the investigations. |
