Penalty by Ishara gives victory for Royal by Kandy sports correspondent A penalty mid way in the second-half by fly half Ishara Perera saw Royal College, Colombo beat Isipatana Maha Vidyalaya 3 points (1 penalty) to nil and become Cup Champions at the All Island Schools under-15 Division One Twelve-a-side Rugby Tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association and played at the newly laid Randles Hill Grounds in Kandy on Sunday. In the semi-finals Royal got the better of Dharmaraja and Isipatana MV beat St. Anthony's College, Kandy. St. Sylvesters College became Plate Champions when they beat Kignswood College 5 points (1 try) to nil. S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia became Bowl Champions defeating Science College, Mount Lavinia 10 points (2 tries) to nil in the finals. At half-time Thomians led 5-0. Flanker S. Dharmadasa and fly half B. Thanishar scored a try each for the Thomians. A total of 24 teams participated in this tournament and the local media were not kept informed of this important tournament. Ranjith Chandrasekera - President of the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association and also the Principal of Kignswood College was the chief guest and he distributed the awards. |
