President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Tyronne Fernando have sent felicitation messages to their counterparts on the occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Portugal which fell on June 10. President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga in a message sent to President of the Republic of Portugal Jorge Fernando Branco de Sampaio states: Excellency, "I have great pleasure in extending to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of the Republic of Portugal, my sincere greetings and warm felicitations and those of the Government and the People of Sri Lanka, on the occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Portugal. I am confident that the historic and friendly ties between our two nations will continue to flourish in the years to come. Please accept, Excellency, my best wishes for your personal health and happiness and for the progress and prosperity of the People of the Republic of Portugal". Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in a message sent to Prime Minister of the Republic of Portugal Dr. Durao Barroso states: Excellency, "It gives me great pleasure to extend to Your Excellency, the Government and the People of the Republic of Portugal, sincere good wishes on the happy occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Portugal. I sincerely hope that the close and cordial relations existing between our countries will be further strengthened for the mutual benefit and well- being of our people. I take this opportunity to extend to Your Excellency, my best wishes for your good health and happiness and for the prosperity of the Republic of Portugal".
