Commerce & Consumer Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake in a statement issued on the success of the Tokyo donor conference said: "Today it is the most momentous day in the history of Sri Lanka, as Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister, I congratulate Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for securing "the biggest aid package" ever, at the historic Tokyo Conference Monday. This is a clear indication of the acceptance by the World leaders, of Prime Minister Wickremesinghe's mission to reposition the country, through the concept of "Regaining Sri Lanka", Minister Karunanayake said in a statement issued today. This is the opportune moment for all Sri Lankans to shed party political differences and work towards one goal, that is to restore lasting peace and drive the country's economy forward. All parties should accept this endorsement by the donors as a sincere pledge to rebuilt our Motherland. "We must accept this hand of friendship with open arms", the Minister said. The Minister emphasized that never in the history of International donorship, such an unprecedented aid package was offered to Sri Lanka. He said that this should be used as a springboard to launch the country to greater heights in economic prosperity with the goal to become the centre of economic excellence among the Asian countries. |
