All set for Poson festival in Anuradhapura and Mihintale

The Poson Festival organizing committee chaired by Anuradhapura GA, W. M. R. B. Wanninayake has made all arrangements to cater to the needs of ten lakhs of pilgrims expected at Anuradhapura and Mihintale during the forthcoming poson season.

All details pertaining to the supply of all logistical services such as water, health and sanitation, transport, first aid and fire services have been looked into.

All liquor shops and meat stalls will remain closed during the poson commencing Wednesday June 11. The Aloka Pooja illuminations at Mihintale will be inaugurated on Friday June 13 by Power and Energy Minister Karu Jayasuriya and NCP Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake. On Poson Poya Day June 14 the illuminations will be switched on by Buddhasasana, Justice, Law Reform and National Integration Minister W. J. M. Lokubandara and Ranjith Wijewardene.On Sunday June 15, Defence, Transport, Highways and Civil Aviation Minister Tilak Marapana and Anuradhapura GA W. M. R. B. Wanninayake will switch on the illuminations of the Mihintale Aloka pooja.

The aloka pooja is jointly organized by Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. (Lake House) Ceylon Electricity Board and the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.

Meanwhile the Mihintale Maha Perahera organized under the joint patronage of Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd, Public Trustee, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, Ceylon Electricity Board and Buddha Sasana and Cultural Affairs Ministries will be conducted on Saturday 14 with usual pomp and pageantry.

Ruwanweli Seya and Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi "Peth Maga" will be illuminated jointly by Lakdanavi Institute and Ceylon Electricity Board.

Security arrangements have drawn up by Deputy Inspector General of Police, NCP.
