The Government intends to allocate a part of the aid received at the Tokyo Conference to meet the budget deficit, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said here yesterday. Speaking to a group of Sri Lankan media personnel, the Premier said he plans to allocate a part of money receiving from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for this purpose. A new institution will also be established to implement projects for the utilisation of the aid money, he added. More aid is expected from the USA after a new Bill is passed in the US Congress. The Premier emphasised that a part of aid received will be allocated for the reconstruction work in the North-East and that money to be allocated will not be utilised for any other purpose. He also said the Government will work together with the LTTE in carrying out the proposed reconstruction work in the North-East and also taking decisions in this respect. |
