Mahadivulwewa paints Colours Without Colours

Shooting of Sudu, Kalu Saha Alu (Colours Without Colours), the maiden film by well-known teledrama director Sudath Mahadivulwewa has been completed.

The film, which is woven around a village bordering the North and East, is now in the process of post production stage, Sudath says.

It focuses on the life in such a village in a post war situation and how the villagers are engaged in a constant battle of surviving even after the war ends, Sudath said in an interview with Stage and Screen. "In my film, I talk about the survivors of the war who are facing immense hardships in the post-war period and to what extent their lives and souls have been affected in a prolonged conflict situation."

"My main intention is to portray that the devastation caused to the human relationship is more harmful than the destruction of physical facilities such as buildings, roads etc."

"What I am highlighting in my film is the efforts and courage shown by those people to re-build their lives amid much hardships and set-backs," Sudath says.

Among the teledramas created by Sudath are Dawala Ratriya, Dande Lu Gini, Manukakapura, Wanaspathi and Nikmantota.

Sudath's maiden creation has been turned into a movie after one year's research on the country's prolonged conflict and life of people affected in the conflict. "The film is woven around a number of small incidents and its a scattered story line," he added.

Another feature of the film is that it does not comprise any main characters. "I wanted to do a film without any main characters and there will be around 13 characters who will be playing significant roles," he added.

Film's music is by veteran musician Premasiri Khemadasa.

The whole film has been shot in Vilachchiya, a remote area close to Anuradhapura in the North-Central province.

"We built an artificial village in this area and the construction of the village took around three months - the film was shot in this village."

The film was processed in India and is now in the dubbing stage.
