The Centre for Buddhist Studies, Sri Lanka will launch its first publication on the Sarvastivada Abhidharma on Saturday June 7 at 3 pm at the National Library and Documentation Services Board Auditorium, Independence Avenue, Colombo 7. It is written by Bhikkhu, Kuala Lumpur Dhammajoti, one of the Editors of the Journal of Buddhist Studies of the Centre for Buddhist Studies. He is also a Professor in the Post Graduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies of Kelaniya University. He is reading in Sri Lanka since 1982. Bhikkhu Dhammajoti is also an Associate Professor and Head of Department of Buddhist Literary sources, in the Post Graduate Institute. He specialises in the field of comparative study of the Pali, Sanskrit, Chinese and Tibetan sources pertaining to the Nikaya/Agama texts and the Abhidharma literature of the Northern tradition. He is also the author of the Chinese version of the Dhammapada published in 1995 and the Abhidharma controversy on visual perception. The launching ceremony will be presided over by Professor M.H.F. Jayasuriya. Professor Y. Karunadasa, former Director of the Institute of Pali and Buddhist studies and the Chief Editor of the Journal of Buddhist Studies will deliver the key-note address on "The significance of the book on the context of Theravada Abhidhamma studies. Professor N.A. Jayawickrama will be the special guest. - NM. |
