Rupa presents credentials to Queen Beatrix

The Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic, of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Rupa Karunatilaka presented his letter of credence to Her Majesty the Queen Beatrix Wilhelmina Armgard on May 21 at an impressive ceremony that took place at the Noordeinde Palace, the working palace of the Queen in The Hague states a press release from the Ambassador in Sri Lanka in Netherlands.

C. Kostense, Chamberlain to Her Majesty the Queen arrived at the "Lak Medura", the official residence of the Ambassador and escorted the Ambassador in a horse-drawn palace carriage. The Ambassador was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Hethumathi Karunatilaka, First Secretary V. Krishnamoorty, and the Attache, W. Somasiri, of the Sri Lanka Embassy to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. On arrival at the palace grounds the National Anthems of Sri Lanka and The Netherlands's were played and it added a touch of grandeur to the ceremony. This was followed by a general salute accorded to the Ambassador from the Guard of Honour, and he was invited to inspect the Guard of Honour before proceeding for the presentation of credentials in the palace.

At the entrance to the palace, the Ambassador was received by G. H. A. Monod de Froideville, Master of Ceremonies and was escorted before Her Majesty the Queen by P. W. Waldeck, Grand-Master of the House. The Ambassador was introduced to Her Majesty, the Queen by F. A. M. Majoor, Secretary-General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and thereafter the Ambassador presented his Credentials.

After the presentation of credentials, the Ambassador introduced the First Secretary, V. Krishnamoorthy and the Attache W. Somasiri to Her Majesty, the Queen. Her Majesty, the Queen congratulated Rupa Karunatilaka on his new assignment in the Netherlands and conveyed the hope of further enhancing bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and the Netherlands.
