Army to salute heroic soldiers

The respective regiments of the Sri Lanka Army has organised separate ceremonies to award medals to officers and other rankers for their heroic acts while on duty, on June 7 at different places.

The Sri Lanka Artillery regiment will mark this event under the patronage of Major General H.B. Tibbotuwana at the Sri Lanka Artillery Regimental centre at Panagoda Army cantonment at 3 pm.

The Signal Corps of the Sri Lanka Army will hold this ceremony under the patronage of its regimental head Major General A.M.C.W.B. Seneviratne at the Tourist Board Auditorium, No.80, Galle road Colombo 3, at 5 pm.

The Sri Lanka Light Infantry will mark this event with the participation of its regimental head, Major General S.H.S. Kottegoda, at its regimental headquarters at the Panagoda Army cantonment at 9 a.m.

The ceremony of the Sinha Regiment will be held at the College of Education at Mirigama, Hapitigama under the patronage of regimental head Major General G.S.C. Fonseka at 8 am.

The Gemunu Regiment will celebrate this event at its regimental headquarters in Kuruwita with the participation of Major General K.B. Egodawela at 9.30 am.

The Sri Lanka National Guard will mark this event at its regimental headquarters in Peherawatta, Kurunegala at 9.30 am with the participation of Deputy Commanding officer of the Volunteer Forces Major General S.A. Kulatunga as their chief guest.

Heroic medals will also be awarded to the next of kin of the officers and other rankers who were killed and are Missing In Action.
