A promising TT star

G. W. Jayantha is a promising table tennis player studying at the faculty of mass media, Sripalee Campus, University of Colombo. He started his career as a table tennis player when he was a schoolboy at Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda.

He started his table tennis career with the TT racquet he received from reputed former Sri Lanka player Mrs. Namal Gunasekera. Since then he has won several titles representing the school team in the years 1992, 95, 96 and 98.

After entering the faculty of mass media Sripalee Campus he won the consolation championship in 2001 at the national table tennis tournament. He won university colours in 2001, 2002 and also a merit award which is awarded to the leading sportsman of the university.

He was selected to represent the 14th World Universities table tennis championships in Poland but could not make the tour due to financial difficulties. He was the runner-up at the Southern Province open table tennis championships 2002 in the men's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles.
