Kandy Sports Club head points table Defending champions Kandy Sports Club went on the rampage in the second half to beat Navy by 70 points to 3 in their Caltex 'A' Division rugby match played at Nittawala on Saturday to climb to the top of the points table. After being contained in the first-half, the lads from Kandy turned in a dazzling display of open rugby with the smooth co-ordination between their forwards and three-quarters. The Colombo Hockey and Football Club scored a runaway 82-25 win over the minnows of 'A' division rugby Old Zahirians on Friday at Maitland Crescent. The lads from Maitland Crescent had an abundance of possession from the set-scrums and line-outs due to the slick hooking of Sameera Wijesinghe and excellent line-out jumping of Sanjaya Bandara. The halves combination of Milinda Jayasinghe and Nalin Dissanayake hit it off smoothly which resulted in the three-quarters being fed with good ball at every turn. Their Fijian centre Jim Balokoro had excellent game by piercing the Old Zahirians defence with his powerful runs to score three tries while ex-Havelocks winger Pradeep Sivakantha too had a field day by touching down on five occasions. The Old Zahirians fought back in the last 20 minutes to score two beautiful tries through Kishore Jehan and Riyaz Haris while skipper Rizwan Mennen fired across four penalties. On Sunday CR and FC crushed Kurunegala RFC by 96 points to 9 at Longden Place. Last year's skipper Asanga Rodrigo had a marvellous game to have a personal contribution of 41 points by scoring five tries and making eight conversions. Wingers Kishan Musafer and M. J. Mushtaq too stood out in attack by scoring two tries each. - (R.S.) |
