Exhibitors finalising deals with Lankan counterparts Exhibitors who participated in the "Made in India Show" are in the process of finalising deals with their Sri Lankan counterparts for marketing their products, the organisers said. The majority of exhibitors have signed with new distributors and dealers to market their products in Sri Lanka. Some of the exhibitors who have identified and taken aboard new dealers at the "Made in India" Show include, The Waxpol Industries India Ltd; Elico Ltd; Fisher Pumps Pvt Ltd; ECOF Industries Pvt Ltd; Godrej and Boys Manufacturing Co ltd; Azad Engineering; Hi-vac Wares among others. The Indian products were in great demand in the island and the exhibitors felt very confident of competing with the other brands available locally. Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, one of the leading automobile manufacturers from India launched its multi-utility vehicle 'Invader' for the Sri Lankan market for the first time at the "Made in India Show" at the BMICH. Mahindra's other variants that were launched at the exhibition are the "Bolero Cabstar" and "Maxx" based on their Bolero platform, and the company is very confident about their products doing well at this country, judging from the visitor's response at the exhibition. A Mahindra official said that they have also bagged a major order from the Sri Lankan Government to provide more than 150 of their Bolero Jeeps. Hero Honda Motors Ltd, one of the world's largest motorcycle manufacturers from India launched its "Smart 75 cc" and "Winner 150 cc" Mopeds for the Sri Lankan markets at the exhibition. Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO), which has its presence in Sri Lanka since the last 42 years, in selling buses and commercial vehicles have displayed the "Tata Indica V2" Lxi, a five-seater hatchback passenger car. They intend to launch this vehicle in Sri Lanka next month, and judging by the kind of response generated at the exhibition, Tata officials are quite confident that the car would take the Sri Lanka market by storm. EID Parry (India) Ltd, India's largest manufacturer of sanitaryware has put on display it entire range of products at the show and is looking confidently at becoming a household name in Sri Lanka soon. Punjab National Bank, the only exhibitor from the financial services sector, going by the nature of queries generated at the exhibition is exploring the possibility of setting up an office in Sri Lanka with special focus on providing financial assistance to the SMEs sector. Usha International Ltd, which had a substantial number of business visitors coming to their stall, now plans to bring in their entire range of products in Sri Lanka and is also planning to open an exclusive showroom in Colombo within six months. ECOF Industries (Pvt) Ltd., the manufacturer of India's largest selling dishwasher detergent under the brand name 'Sabena' has also identified a distribution agent to market its product in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan women seem to have found a strong liking to the Indian Designer Sarees and Jewellery that were exhibited at the exhibition, as was evident from the hordes of visitors who thronged the stalls exhibiting them. Ravi Karunanayake, Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs; Mahinda Wijesekera, Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources; Bandula Gunawardene, Deputy Finance Minister and Minister of Rural Economy, Lal Gamage, Minister for Assisting Foreign Affairs, W. J. M. Lokubandara, Minister of Justice and Judicial Reforms and Cecil Amerasinghe, Secretary (Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation) also visited the 'Made in India Show'. |
