Trinco Forces, LTTE representatives meet by Ranil Wijayapala The Security Forces commanders and the LTTE military leadership met in the no man's area in Kattaparichchan on Wednesday to bridge differences and to make new lines of communications between the two parties, Defence sources said yesterday. The meeting between the Security Forces commanders and LTTE military leaders in Trincomalee has been observed as the first meeting held between the two parties after the signing of the ceasefire agreement, sources added. The Head of the Trincomalee SLMM Jan Ledang headed this meeting which was attended by Trincomalee 21 Division Commander Brigadier Seneveera and Trincomalee LTTE military leader colonel Pathuman. Trincomalee LTTE political wing leader Thilak and other political representatives Uthayan, Vimalan and Bavanathan also attended this meeting. The SLMM Chief Tryggve Teleffssen earlier fixed April 21 for this meeting but were unable to proceed with it due to the difficult situation in Muttur area at that time. The SLMM fixed this meeting to discuss a large number of complaints made by the Security Forces about night movements of LTTE armed cadres in government controlled areas. SLMM Deputy Chief Hagrup Haukland told the Daily News yesterday though there was no specific outcome from the meeting but, it was important to have this type of meeting to bridge differences between the two parties. "This will enable them to sort out any problems in the future, Haukland added. |
