Special Bodhipooja and Buddhapooja were conducted last Wednesday at Vijayarama Vihara, Wellawatte in view of the 92nd birthday of Most Venerable Agga Maha Panditha Madhie Panngnaseeha Mahayanayaka Thera, Chief President of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Sangha Sabha which falls in the first week of June. This is the first in a series of religious ceremonies that would be held to invoke blessings on the Mahanayaka and wish him long life to continue his services to the Buddhist dispensation. These religious ceremonies were held under the direction of Venerable Ahangama Ananda Nayaka Thera, Viharadhipati of Vijayarama Vihara. The vihara Dayaka Sabha, the devotees, students of the Dhamma Schools, students of the neighbouring schools, the members of the Saviya Foundation and the general public actively participated. Ven. Madihe Panngnaseeha Mahanayaka Thera was present on the occasion. Earlier in the day Venerable Ahangama Ananda donated two-wheel chairs to two disabled patients at the Colombo National Hospital. He also released three cows tied for slaughter from a slaughter house in the city. The merit acquired from these meritorious acts will be bestowed on the Mahanayaka Thera said Ven. Ahangama Ananda. At the conclusion of the religions ceremonies Venerable Omare Nandaloka Thera in a brief speech extolled the services of Madihe Panngnaseeha Mahanayaka Thera to the Buddhist dispensation and to the nation and country and wished him long-life to continue his services. |
