Lanka hopes for active Malaysian participation at Tokyo donor conference - Lankan HC

Sri Lanka's new High Commissioner to Malaysia , Rose Senanayake in her first official note to the Malaysian Governemnt has conveyed the Sri Lanka Government's wish for Malaysia's participation at the upcoming Tokyo donor conference on Reconstruction and Development of Sri Lanka

She said her Government desired a high ranking Malaysian official at the Conference to be held on June 9,10. This she said would be crucial in the efforts to rebuild Sri Lanka.

"Malaysia is an important country to us and we are looking forward to your input at the conference" she states in her letter to Wisma Putra.

Although her primary goal in her new role was to develop trade and political links with Malaysia , Sri Lanka needs to achieve peace first, the former Mrs World said.

"We are very hopeful that Malaysia will help (with the peace and redevelopment process)....you have never let us down", she said in an interview.

She said "Sri Lankans have suffered enough. The key to eradicating poverty and unemployment lies in achieving economic growth and for that, the peace element is vital" she added.
