Clarification

With reference to our front page story tiled "Legal Status of Three Chief Ministers in Doubt" Southern Province Chief Minister H.G.Sirisena states he was duly elected at the 1999 Provincial Poll from the Matara District and was chosen as the Council's Chairman.

Subsequently when the incumbent Chief Minister won a Parliamentary seat at the General Election of 2001, he (Sirisena) was appointed to fill the vacancy of Chief Minister.
