Isipatana begin Milo League campaign against Carey

by Chris Dhambarage

Isipatana will launch their campaign for the Milo Schools 'A' division league title with a match against Carey College at Maitland Crescent today.

This will be the first major encounter for the Isipatana team after their engagement against the oldboys last week. Isipatana are favoured to pull off this game by a convincing margin but they will be determined to kick off the season on a impressive note. They are expected to make few changes for this game in an attempt to give all their players a good warm up session.

Captained by number eight Nimesh de Silva Isipatana's main goal is to regain the Milo 'A' division League tournament after they were deprived of the title last year due to a technical error despite remaining unbeaten throughout the season. The Careyites are up against another tough team but they will be hoping to contain the opposition as much as possible. Meanwhile St. Joseph's College will entertain St. Anthony's College in another Milo Schools encounter at Longden Place today. The Josephians put up a pleasing performance in their opening fixture despite going down fighting against S. Thomas' College Mount Lavinia last week. The Antonians are of course making their first appearance for the season and the pressure will be on them while performing away from home.

The giant killers Ananda should notch up their second successive victory for the season when they meet Mahanama MV in another Milo Schools fixture at Longden Place on Saturday. The Anandians have already made a great start defeating S. Thomas' College Mount Lavinia 8-7 in a thrilling encounter. They have certainly signalled a warning to the rest of their opponents and will be hoping to register a morale boosting victory.

Royal will come out for the first time when they confront Dharmaraja College Kandy in their Milo Schools rugby encounter at Nittawela on Sunday. This match is really important for both teams because they are vying for honours in the Milo 'A' division league tournament along with the defending champions.
