Investment seminar to follow Tokyo donor parley

by Manjula Fernando and Rajmi Manatunga

A major investment seminar aimed at informing Japanese entrepreneurs of investment opportunities available in Sri Lanka is to follow the donor conference in Japan.

The seminar will be held on June 11 after the second donor conference which will commence in Tokyo on June 9.

Cabinet Spokesman Prof G.L Peiris said Japanese entrepreneurs and media will focus on Sri Lanka during the seminar organised with the assistance of the Board of Investment.

"Japan is Sri Lanka's largest single donor and the seminar will be a great occasion for us to highlight opportunities in Sri Lanka to the Japanese business community," he said.

Replying to a question by the media, the Minister assured that the current tense situation in the peace process will not pose difficulties in encouraging investors. The donor conference in Japan will be attended by high profile representatives from 35 countries and 20 other multilateral donors. The needs of the North-East will be given prominence during the conference.

"The Government is grateful to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the World Bank for laying the foundation for the conference," the Minister added.
