Laugfs Gas too down Laugfs Lanka Gas (Pvt) Limited yesterday reduced the price of its 12.5 Kg domestic Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) by Rs.70. Shell Gas Lanka Limited has already made a similar price reduction. A company news release said the price reduction reflected the return of normality to the Middle East and declining LP Gas prices in the world market. Accordingly, a 12.5 Kg domestic cylinder will be priced at Rs. 595 in Colombo and suburbs. Outstation prices will vary, inclusive of transport. The price of a 12.5 Kg empty cylinder too has been reduced to Rs.1800. Pakistan condoles for flood victims The President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan have sent condolence messages to the President and the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka at the tragic loss of lives and widespread damage caused by the floods in Sri Lanka. "I have learnt with deep grief and sorrow the widespread loss of life and property in the recent floods in your country. I extend my profound condolences to the affected families on behalf of the Government and the people of Pakistan and our sympathies to the Government and the people of Sri Lanka. Please accept Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration," the message of Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali said. HNB donates Rs. 3m for flood victims The Hatton National Bank has made a donation of Rs. 3 million towards the flood victims.Its staff has also donated foodstuffs, clothing and other basic essentials to be distributed in the affected areas, a release issued by the HNB states. A fleet of vehicles had been requisitioned to carry these goods to these areas immediately. The lorries with the goods will leave HNB Towers at Darley Road on May 23 at 9.30 am to be handed over to the District Secretaries of the relevant areas through the HNB Regional Manager or Branch Manager at Galle and Ratnapura, the release adds. Appeal Dr. Thanusha Dhanapala (29) (Old Girl, Girls High School, Kandy) 2/172, Farm Estate, Kadugannawa attached to Kegalle Base Hospital has been diagnosed with acture lymphoblastic leukaemia. She has been sent to Apollo Specialist Hospital, Chennai, South India for immediate treatment. Arrangements are now being made to perform a surgery on her at Apollo Hospital Chennai and the cost is estimated to be around Sri Lankan Rs. 5 million. Her mother says being a widow she is not in a position to meet the full cost of her daughters treatment. She requests those wishing to send donations towards her daughter's cause to remit their contributions to the Bank of Ceylon, Union Place Branch A/C No: 100431142257. Vesak celebrated in the Netherlands Ambassador Rupa Karunatilaka wishes all Sri Lankans in the Netherlands a Happy Vesak and called for the continuation for such occasions together as one family. The envoy was addressing a large gathering, which included a cross section of all ethnic groups of Sri Lankans and well-wishers at the premises of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in The Hague, The Netherlands when they commemorated The Vesak Day on May 15. Ambassador Karunatilaka expressed his pleasure at being present at these celebrations in his first function as Ambassador for Sri Lanka in The Netherlands. He extended a warm welcome to all who had gathered for the triple anniversary of the Supreme Buddha. He highlighted the importance of the Triple Anniversary of Buddha's birth, supreme enlightenment and passing away. The Ambassador said that Buddhism shares many values with the other great religions of the world. These include a spirit of self-determination and responsibility for one's own destiny, and compassion and kindness for fellow human beings.
