The Royal Netherlands Embassy in Colombo has decided to contribute Rs. 7 million to support the flood victims in their immediate needs, states a Netherlands Embassy press release. Two million Sri Lankan Rupees has already been committed to the Sarvodaya Sharmadana Movement for the provision of temporary shelter. Rs. 5 million will be contributed to the Federation of the Red Cross Society. Furthermore, a disaster expert of the Netherlands Government is member of the OCHA/UNDAC mission which arrives today and will assess the situation. As an outcome of that mission further action and pledging by the Netherlands Government through the emergency fund of OCHA (Office of Humanitarian Assistance of the UN) might be recommended. The Netherlands Government contributes already on a structural basis to the OCHA-funds of the United Nations. The Royal Netherlands Embassy follows the developments and the humanitarian needs closely and might consider additional pledging. |
