The Ministry of Finance has launched a Special Relief Fund Account to assist victims of the current flood disaster. Finance Minister K.N. Choksy has expressed confidence that the Corporate, business and Plantation sectors together with professionals would come forward with their generous contributions during present crisis. Issuing a Media release the Minister states: The majority of those who have suffered loss of their property and life savings due to the recent rains and floods belong to the less-affluent segment of society. They are self-employed rural residents. The Ministry of Finance has therefore launched a Special Relief Fund Account to assist them. I am confident that the corporate business sector, the plantation community and professionals will respond generously to the call for financial assistance. All contributions will be individually acknowledged and qualify for tax relief. Cheques should be drawn in favour of the Secretary to the treasury, and forwarded to the Ministry of Finance or placed to the credit of Treasury's Special Relief Fund Account at the Bank of Ceylon, Taprobane Branch in the Fort.
