Nineteen teams battle for Charles Robinson Memorial Trophy The most popular "Charles Robinson Memorial" seven-a-side hockey tournament organised by Old Thomians Matale, Colombo branch is scheduled to be conducted for the seventh consecutive year on Saturday the 10th May 2003 at Edward Park and Esplanade Matale. Most outstanding nineteen teams from all parts of the hockey playing districts namely, Colombo, Kandy, Matale, Badulla, Wennappuwa, Galle are invited to participate. This years addition will be a team from Jaffna district who have consented to enter. All four service teams who have been participating from the inception have expressed their willingness to compete in this years competition. Attractive cash awards and valuable trophies will be given away to the four top teams and the selection of the most outstanding hockey player 2003 will be selected by a panel of past Sri Lanka hockey players. The winners will be awarded with the Charles Robinson Memorial Challenge Trophy and a cash award of Rs. 10,000. Meanwhile the two runners-up too will be awarded with trophies and cash awards Rs. 7,500 and 5,000 respectively. A special award awaits for the most outstanding player. Group A: Sri Lanka Army, Malay CC, CH & FC, CR & FC, Zahira SC. Group B: Park SC, BRC, Sri Lanka Navy, Old Uvaites, Christ Church. Group C: Sri Lanka Air Force, Colombo Colts CC, Old Vijayans, St. Thomas College, Yarl Stars SC. Group D: Sri Lanka Police, Malwatte SC, Kandy Malay CC, KDA. |
