Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom will pay a three-day official visit to Sri Lanka from Tuesday (May 6). Gayoom, one of the longest serving Heads of State in South Asia, is scheduled to hold talks with President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and several senior ministers. The talks will focus on the peace process, SAARC and bilateral issues. He will leave for Maldives on May 8. Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will also pay an official visit to Sri Lanka from May 12 to coincide with Vesak celebrations. He will participating in the opening of the second Ranweta at the Mahamaluwa of the Anuradhapura Sri Maha Bodhi along with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. Both Prime Ministers are expected to stay in Kandy during Vesak Poya. The Thai Premier will leave Sri Lanka on May 16. |
