SLAMS elect officials

The annual general meeting of the controlling body for Motor Sports in Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Association of Motor Sports (SLAMS) was held on 28th March, 2003 at the Sasakawa Hall, Colombo 3.

It was only three months back that the Minister of Sports dissolved the Interim Board nominated during the previous regime and paved the way for member clubs to elect their representatives to SLAMS.

This association now consists of clubs actively engaged in the sport and is bent on improving the sport as quickly as possible to acceptable standards. With all clubs participating in the deliberations for the improvement of the sport, the association is positive of last growth. Already two senior officials of the sport from the UK has visited the country and conducted seminars for officials and drivers.

This would help to improve the sport through understanding of standards, as applied at national and international events of motor sports. Issue of certificates to officials and competition driving licenses will take place shortly, we are made to understand. A number of committees have already been appointed to look into ways and means of improving the various aspects of the sport and creating a level-playing ground for all competitors.

The election of office-bearers for the council of SLAMS was carried out very smoothly with the President, the Vice Presidents, Hony. Secretary and the Hony. Treasurer being elected uncontested. The council consists of President, Suranjith Premadasa, Vice Presidents, Pubudu Wickrema and Nihal Ratnayake, Hony. Secretary, Ranjith Jinasena, Hony. Treasurer, Tharindhu Perera.
