The Nuwara Eliya holiday season will this time receive added spice in the form of exquisite Thai Cuisine courtesy the Siam House Thai Restaurant, the only known Thai culinary shop in Sri Lanka. Known for its aromatic mouth watering dishes prepared by a trio of expert Thai Chefs this will be the first time Siam will break its exclusivity to cater to different clientele - and what better choice than the N'Eliya at the height of the holiday season.

This will now provide the opportunity for holiday makers in Nuwara Eliya for the first time to savour sumptuous Thai delicacies prepared to authentic menus by experts to complement the other delights and attractions of the season.

There is a wide choice available from the green curry/red thick curry meat or sea food to crab with chilli sauce and spicy thai salad. He also recommends the deep fried chicken, fish cake and prawn cake. These are but a few of the delights on offer, with a wide array of mouth watering fare to savour.

And given the steady stream of patrons to the restaurant down Abdul Gaffoor Mawatha in Kollupitiya, there is little doubt that this famous holiday retreat will be in for a real Thai feat this coming season confides Fernando. He promises the same sumptuous fare and the right ambience to afford a memorable experience of the best Thai culinary traditions.

It was mostly providence that saw the coming into being of Siam Restaurant. It was in 1993 when. Fernando a Chartered Accounted during his official duties met this Thai national attached to the AirLanka Catering Service. A friendship was struck and the first Thai Restaurant in Sri Lanka was set up. The Thai National Suvis Sakuma offered his expertise while Fernando was entrusted with the business end of the project.

The outcome was the BOI approved Siam House Thai Restaurant which was set up in 1993. Initially it had its premises at Duplication Road before moving into its present location at Abdul Gaffoor Mawatha. It's grown in popularity with a steady stream of customers who had rapidly turned into Thai gourmets, according to its owner.

The Restaurant is opened daily from 11 am to midnight except on May day. Its cavernous interior, curving stairways with soft lights and complementary decor has made it popular rendezvous.

It is geared to cater for any occasion from business meetings, conferences to weddings, receptions and even small gatherings of VIPs . "There are three Thai Chefs to turn out the dishes using ingredients which are imported from Thailand", Fernando says.

He adds that Thai food in natural nutritious, colourful and full of flavour. "Fresh traditional ingredients and cooking techniques make Thai food light and healthy-possibly why it has grown in popularity worldwide.
